I’m so excited to share a baby bumpdate today BECAUSE… I have so many pretty maternity photos from Megan Kelsey Photography to go along with the update! We decided to take our maternity photos in Charlottesville and chose an easy location with lots of natural backdrops, Darden Towe Park. I knew I wanted to wear this lace maxi dress from PinkBlush in burgundy and completely fell in love with my makeup and lashes by Ali & Co Esthetics.
We took these photos 2 weeks ago on May 3rd, which was so special because it was our 4th wedding anniversary and we were thrilled to spend the evening celebrating our little man! We even made it a date night by heading to Steal the Glass at Blue Mountain Brewery afterward! Our session ended just in time to enjoy the warmth on their outside patio as the sun set over the mountains. So these photos show my 36 week baby bump, but right now we’re actually at 38 weeks and waiting for our sweet babe to make his arrival!
So, how am I doing at 38 weeks pregnant?
Well, I’m still feeling pretty great!! I’ve noticed my feet have started to swell more, especially when I’m out in the heat or when I get home from work after sitting at a desk all day. It’s also getting more and more uncomfortable to sleep! I don’t have a pregnancy pillow and I find myself tossing and turning a lot, especially early in the morning. When I crash into the couch to watch some Netflix and cuddle up next to my husband, I’ve started to have a little more trouble pulling myself back up when our show or movie is over. My abs are pretty much completely useless at this point.
Any signs that baby is coming soon?
About a week or two ago, I think I was having some pretty strong Braxton-Hicks contractions but they didn’t last and everything seemed to go back to normal. I had my weekly doctor’s appointment on Tuesday and they said I was about 1.5cm dilated and 70% effaced, so my body is making a little progress in that direction! At this point, I’m thinking we still have some time before he makes his appearance!
Are we ready for him?
Oh, we are finally getting there!! I’ve had so many house projects up in the air and I have been trying to finish up editing for sessions and weddings before he arrives. Our bedrooms officially have doors (the doors have been off the hinges since December), his nursery is all decorated (a post on that hopefully coming soon), and we have gotten his carseat installed and checked by the fire department! My hospital bag is mostly packed, but I’m happy to hear what “must-haves” I should be including! While I think I’ve packed the necessities, I’m definitely open to any tips from moms who have been there before. Tell me in the comments – what did you most appreciate having at the hospital?
How am I feeling lately?
I’m feeling like a hot mess of emotion if I’m being honest! I cannot wait to see our baby’s face and hold him close and kiss his little cheeks! I’m excited to know him outside of my body, to watch him grow, and to see if he has his daddy’s smile or his mama’s eyes. At the same time, I am anxious about our dog Palmer meeting our newest little family member and, as a planner type of person, it feels so out of my control just waiting for this tiny human to make his appearance. This huge life change is coming and I have no idea whether it will be today or 3 weeks from now. But in the midst of this whirlwind of excitement and anxiety, I’m soaking up the last moments with just Nathan and I, dreaming of this little boy we’ll get to raise, and knowing he’s going to have his own unique story, whatever that may be. It might be out of my control, but his story is in God’s hands and I am always coming back to that.
